Head Teacher’s Welcome
I am incredibly proud to be entrusted with the leadership of education for all of the children at Mengham Junior School. As a mother of two children myself, I am very much aware of the responsibility we have in ensuring that a high standard of learning and teaching is evident in all areas of our curriculum. I do not underestimate in any way the importance of the learning journey that each and every child makes as they grow through our school. I believe in inclusion at all levels. I will strive to ensure every child works to their full potential; stretching and challenging our gifted and talented children whilst supporting all children when needed. We work closely as a team to ensure all children are developed; setting and evaluating challenging targets in reading writing and maths.
I feel strongly that we should work together in partnership. At Mengham Junior School we welcome parents and carers as partners so that, together, we promote high standards of learning, behaviour and attitudes to enable every child to be the best that they can be. We encourage your involvement in all aspects of school life. We have a new FOMS and a dynamic parent panel.
Our aim at Mengham Junior is to continue the children’s learning journey; building on what they have learnt at KS1 and teaching them the skills they will need for the next phase of their education.
I am committed to establishing a safe, enjoyable, creative and outstanding learning environment. Our aim at Mengham Junior is to continue the children’s learning journey; building on what they have learnt at KS1 and teaching them the skills they will need for the next phase of their education. Our curriculum starts with a “hook” to engage learning and is completed with an open afternoon where children “teach” parents and carers. I want the children to continue to be excited by their learning and come home to you buzzing with what they have learnt at school, to share their learning, to ask you questions and to want to discover more! As part of our extended day, we offer a wide variety of clubs from percussion, cookery, netball, cross country, and table tennis to chess and drama. We place a high value on this provision and staff are committed to the benefits gained from these experiences. OSCA and our own breakfast club provide an excellent standard of before and after school care.
Developing our curriculum is at the heart of our school life and as part of this journey I have already started to transform our library. It has been painted and we have new furniture with more to come! I have ordered books for lower readers, guided reading books for higher readers (up to level 6) and e- books to support home reading. I will be working with our parent panel to further develop home reading and homework.
Mengham Junior School is an exciting and vibrant place to be for all members of the community.
Our caring ethos within the school is a strength and as such, we run a successful nurture group and have established ELSA support. The children have an active School Council, Buddy system and even run their own “Bored No More” lunchtime play club. I have written our behaviour policy building on KS1 and in consultation with our staff and children. It is a positive system based on rewards and expectations. Each child is aware that their actions have consequences.
Mengham Junior School is an exciting and vibrant place to be for all members of the community. I want to raise aspirations and provide all the children in our school with the sense that they can be anything they want to be…working to enjoy and achieve today; learning for tomorrow.
Warmest regards
